History of the Zipper Industry

Zippers are an important closure system used in many clothing and textile products in the modern world. However, the history of the zipper is quite interesting and has a long history.

Origin of the zipper, 19. it dates back to the beginning of the century. During this period, people combined their clothes with buttons, studs, hooks and even button holes. However, not all of these methods were practical and difficult to use.

in 1849, Elias Howe, an American inventor, designed a machine called "patented chain stitch". This machine was revolutionary for the textile industry and earned Howe a large fortune. However, the patented chain sewing machine, although not the direct ancestor of the zipper, inspired the development of the zipper.

in 1891, Whitcomb Judson, a Scottish inventor, released a product called "C-bolt connected shoe". This product is considered the outline of today's zipper. Judson later renamed this design the "Universal Fastener".

Then, in 1913, the foundation was laid for the modern form of the zipper. Gideon Sundback developed Judson's design and patented it. Sundback's zipper was a four-piece system and bore the basic characteristics of today's zipper.

The zipper quickly became popular and began to be used in many clothing and textile products. First, zippers were used for work shoes, such as bags and boots. However, zippers later also began to be used in many different products, such as trousers, jackets, gloves and even tents.

Nowadays, zippers are still an indispensable part of the fashion world and other industries. Thanks to technological advances, zippers are now more durable, manufactured in various colors and sizes, and designed specifically for customers' needs. Zippers continue to develop in parallel with the changes in the textile and fashion industry.
